57 private colleges and 3 unis hit by exam fraud

The licences of 57 private colleges have been suspended by the Home Office, which launched a criminal investigation into ETS Global Ltd., the European subsidiary of global testing giant ETS. The Home Office also suspended international recruitment at three universities, after an investigation concluded that around 45,000 immigrants may have fraudulently obtained English language test certificates.

English language tests run by the major firm, ETS, have been suspended by the Home Offic after the BBC Panorama programme uncovered systematic fraud in the student visa system. Panorama undertook secret filming of the government-approved exams needed for a visa, showing candidates having tests faked for them. According to ETS, it sets the exams but does not appoint the invigilators.
