During my last year of education in Romania I made a decision which would significantly change my life. I decided to study abroad and in the UK. At the time it seemed very hard as I would have to move to another country where I wouldn’t have any family or connections. But now I am proud to say that it was one of the best decisions I have ever made.

One of my biggest fears was that I will have trouble making friends but as soon as I arrived in Coventry I started meeting a great deal of new people.  Everyone was in the same bucket as me. The vast majority of students had left their home and had few or no friends. But there are numerous ways of making friends such as Facebook groups, student societies and of course, parties.

Obviously, studying here is not a piece of cake. The educational system is different from what I am used to and I am not studying in my mother language anymore. But I found the University very supportive in this regard. It had introduction classes for everything I had to know before starting the academic year. Soon I had friends and started to make connections. I was getting involved in extracurricular activities like volunteering. I felt like I belonged here.

I think when deciding to study abroad, the UK is a very good choice. It has an exceptional educational system, no wonder it has some of the best universities in the world. Overall, I feel that it was a good and smart decision to come and study here. This experience not only helped me grow as an individual, but it opened new horizons and made me a flexible individual. And it even forced me to learn to cook (which is a very good thing)!
